CHAPTER 12

G stepped inside the store in Good Hope Marketplace. He walked towards the meat department and pushed the service buzzer. A light skinned man with freckles on his face appeared.

“What’s up big Al?” G said, as he made his way around the counter.

“What’s up big G?” Al said, shaking G’s hand.

“You slim, I came to get that.” G stared into the big man’s face that looked scared.

Al’s eyes dropped to the floor. “Man, I ain’t got it.”

G folded his arms across his chest, something he did often when he felt supreme in the presence of someone. “Slim, you goin’ on six months. I…”

Al brought his eyes up from the floor and looked at G with a big smile on his face. “I’m just kiddin’, I got’cha money in the back. C’mon.”

G followed Al through a pair of swinging doors, but while doing so he thought, this nigga wanna play games, but I’m serious ‘bout my money. He doesn’t know, but if he didn’t have my dough, his fat ass was goin’ six feet under.

G stepped out of the store with 50 g’s stuffed in his pockets and hopped into his Hummer.

“He didn’t have your money,” Roc said sitting in the passenger seat.

“Yeah, he had my shit!”

“Good,” Roc spat. “Cause we already have too many niggas to lay down as it is.”

G looked at Roc, who displayed a three-inch straw sticking out of his mouth.

“Nigga, when the fuck you start chewin’ on straws?” G asked. “For the last two weeks, you’ve been chewin’ on those shits.”

“I don’t know, slim. I just picked this shit up out of nowhere.”

Roc turned towards his business partner. “G, what’s up? Let me in on how that shit wit’ the broad and Def went down.”

G smiled. “Oh, I ain’t tell you?”

“Nah.”

“Man, they slumped your man on the first try. Tyra got the nigga alone and Def put in that work.”

Roc grinned. “So the broad came through, huh?”

“Yeah, she did good. She doesn’t know this, but Def told me she had a lil’ breakdown from watchin’ him punish that nigga.”

“He killed slim in front of her?” Roc questioned.

“Yeah, he said he had to break her in. But he said she got over the shit quick.”

“Slim, that nigga Def a cold ma’fucka,” Roc said, shaking his head.

“Yeah, he is, and that’s why he’s on our team.”

“So, when I’ma get to see the broad, Tyra?” Roc asked.

“You already seen her at the Verizon Center.”

“Nah, I ain’t get to see but a glimpse of her. She was surrounded by a crowd of people when you pointed her out to me.”

“Oh yeah, you right. Well, I don’t know, she only on board to do her job and that’s it. We don’t need to be socializin’ wit’ her on a regular. ”

“So, since she as bad as you say she is, you ain’t tryna hit that?”

“Believe me,” G said, letting out a sigh, “I’d love to tap that ass, but she on board like I said to do her job.”

“What about Def? You think he tryna hit that?”

“I don’t know, but I doubt it.
